Data Mining

According to the articles, data mining extracts data of the person from the past, present and even data that have yet to come, unseen data and what if data is. Now this data are gathered by two methods the classic methods or classical techniques are statistics, neighborhoods, survey and clustering. Basically these methods are just kid’s stuff, given statistics gathers data summing it all up, and neighborhood is just comparisons and comments.
Using this methods regarding healthcare or applying them in healthcare is very important or is a big factor because accuracy and extensive records will help a lot in giving cure, giving aid and providing a solution for the illness and when health is the topic, every medical history of the person is important, one good example is the movie “house” one episode was about allergic reactions inside and outside the body. and people who witnessed what happened to the patient was explaining that it was about the plants that the patient had an allergic reaction, but given the proper medicines for the plants did not cure the girl until extensive medical history check was done and was founded a chain of allergic reactions occurred. This example clearly cost a lot for the hospital on wasted medication, and did put the life of the patient at risk. Having data mining in your system cuts cost.

The effective use of information and technology is crucial for health care organizations to stay competitive in today’s complex, evolving environment. The challenges faced when trying to make sense of large, diverse, and often complex data source are considerable. In an effort to turn information into knowledge, health care organizations are implementing data mining technologies to help control costs and improve the efficacy of patient care. Data mining can be used to help predict future patient behavior and to improve treatment programs. By identifying high-risk patients, clinicians can better manage the care of patients today so they do not become the problems of tomorrow. The SAS data mining solution offers tools and techniques for extracting, visualizing, modeling, and delivering information. Data mining goes well beyond queries and is more than a series of reports. It includes tools for visualizing relationships in data. At Oxford, data mining is used to help answer complex issues revolving around patient utilization. They want a better understanding of member utilization of care and services, as well as patient and member preferences of how, who, and where they like to deal with care. What are the key variables in predicting utilization, improving quality outcomes and improving compliance issues? To stay competitive, Oxford must empower hospitals, physicians, and members with information so they can interact with each other effectively to deliver high-quality care. Data mining tools are useful for understanding and improving physician and member satisfaction goals. To make the lives of the person or people undergoing a specific health issue can be assured of a better and longer safer life. And to determine whether what is or are still lacking in the health industry of the country, to know what else can be done to improve the services given by the present generation. Data mining is a very time efficient and cost cutting method that can help and improve the country’s flaws regarding the health industry. Like it can help determine what are needed and what are not, what health related issues are visible to some people so that researchers can determine what technology or what kind of technology or machine can be used to cure that illness. And it cuts cost for the reason that, with the help of these surveys, makers can visualize the machine to be invented without building the machine itself.
It is like making sure of something first before putting it into work. With the help of data mining, the person doing the data gathering will be able to know the patient-to-be very well, that it will be easier to determine the weakness, strengths and other basic information about the patient, and this will be very relevant for the future. For the reason that, if and only if the person will have some problems, it will be easier for those who are involved and who are affected by the patient’s conditions of what could be the possible cause. Through this, it will save time because rather than spending the time given for the doctor to cure the patient as soon as possible, it will be wasted on the doctor still finding out things needed or information about the patient.

HEALTHCARE

"HOW DOES IT HELP THE HEALTHCARE INDUSTRY GAIN COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE"

First of all, what is IT? I have done researches about It and so far what I found out was that IT is the study, design, development, implementation, support or management of computer-based information system, particularly software applications and computer hardware. Instead of taking a piece of paper and writing something on it and then filing it in a big file cabin IT makes it easier by using a software to type on and store it at the same time without even standing up. It basically makes your job a little easier.

IT in our generation today is becoming a necessity a need for faster and a more productive system, not only does it apply to our daily life, IT now a day is everywhere, even in my pocket. It made life easier, work faster and communication worldwide. And now, IT is being applied to health.

So how does IT help health care industry gain competitive advantage? First is, positioning yourself in the market by being the most IT advanced health care facility in the place, having a good database design, faster hardware, more secured data for privacy and secured place for safety having technological advancement. Patients can pass on the grueling process of filling up information forms while bleeding.

Establishing this even if your facility is smaller than the others but providing faster processes and secured data means, is, providing your company a good foundation for the trust of your market. Another is ,easy transactions, having a good and fast hardware and a good database design provides a smooth a hassle free entry of data and storing of records for your customers.

Having IT in drugstores relieve people of the tiring process of manually checking of the availability of the medication out of the hundreds of medicines stored in the drugstore, IT database could be designed to check the inventory of the products according to the remaining quantity and consumed number of that specific medicine, provides a faster and time efficient transaction and faster sales at the end of the day, compared to a poorly designed software and hardware system drugstore.

IT also provides accurate dosage of medicine to take, drink or inject to the person, the number or amount of dosage/s can be digitally computed for more accuracy and the only thing the nurses has to do is to inject and provide the patient the medicine needed corresponding the amount of how much should be taken. It could also monitor the time frames of when the medicine should be taken and have the nurses be informed that the patient should take another dosage of the medicine he or she needs. IT could automatically adjust whatever equipment such as the temperature of the air condition unit, the bed and all the other things that needs adjustments even if the nurse is at her desk she could do it by computer. Some hospitals even placed cameras in corridors, rooms etc., just to make sure that the patients are all okay and safe.

Room management could also be a factor for IT to be included, having a monitor just like the security surveillance camera, but IT could be design to monitor status of patients in their rooms, having IT in healthcare ensures accurate and less errors removing stress like what human labors feel, computer does not get tired and could always be provided for backups.

Less human resource could be used so that it could cut the cost of the healthcare facility. Avoiding errors is a must because people’s lives at risk, computer can be programmed for fixed schedules, accuracy and persistency is a must. Pharmaceuticals can be accurately mixed and dosages can be evenly distributed per pill, tablets and liquid medicines.

Another big step IT could help in competitive advantage, the one I see that makes all the difference is healthcare through the internet, from what I see is, patients could conveniently access the internet, and check on the website regarding symptoms, health problems, and other safety advises. Online schedules, like for flights, can be even monitored, whether the plane has landed , if the flight was cancelled, or delayed. Through IT, family members that are abroad can communicate to those who are in the Philippines for instance. Little accidents, such as allergies or any illnesses, instead of going to the hospital, fall in line and by the time you get to talk to the doctor the allergies already is healed, people could just search for the procedures to be done , thru the help of IT, the internet. And with that, any one, as long as he or she knows how to go online and use the internet, do it.

Another instance is when a surgery should be done, with the help of IT surgeons or doctors could do simulations of the operation, in order for the doctor to practice or even check whether what he or she is planning to do is really possible and safe, before doing it to the patient for a safer operation.

Nowadays, companies and other businesses are dependent on IT, because, it is where they can advertise their products instead of putting up and sticking flyers everywhere, IT can help them save effort, time and money. One example is, there are advertisements of health medicines that are spread through out the internet, like weight loss capsules, skin whitening medicines... etc.

!st Datamin exercise

Hi! I am Martin Edward V. Lomeda. When people first see me, they would normally think that I am masungit because I always look serious but that is just how I am. I know that first impressions usually last but people who are close to me know that I am not as serious as I seem to be. When I am with my friends I tend to goof around with them a lot. People who read this may not believe a word I say but who cares? I am the writer of my life and people will just have to deal with it!
Being the unpredictable person that I am, I didn’t expect that I would be walking the halls of De La Salle Canlubang for my college education. Here I am taking up Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Major in Management, currently in my fourth year already and hopefully I get to graduate soon.
This blog site is a requirement I will have to do for my data mining class. I must admit that I really do not like writing exercises and blogs being no exception but I am determined to pass this class and I am willing to do whatever it takes for me to pass this course.
